Starting a Child Care Program

Windham Child Care Association is our community’s resource for anyone considering starting a family or center-based child care program. While we are not a regulatory body and do not oversee the licensing of child care programs, we can help you prepare to become a licensed family care provider or start a center-based program.

Registering a family child care program

We offer free, individualized consulting to anyone considering starting a family child care program in their home. We will help you understand the state requirements, the need for care in your town, how to work with families accessing financial assistance through the state, and share with you the resources available for ongoing support. This program meets the state requirement for orientation.  Call Nancy Witherill at 802-254-5332 extension 312 for more information.

The State of Vermont Agency of Human Services, Department for Children and Families (DCF), Child Development Division (CDD) oversees the licensing family child care homes in Vermont. For a copy of the Regulation for Family Child Care Homes call 1-800-649-2642 or see their web site.
